Freshman/Alumni Summer Internship Program (F/ASIP)

This year marks the ninth year for MIT's Freshman/Alumni Summer Internship Program. What began with 20 students, a group of committed alumni, and Professor Arthur Steinberg's vision is now one of MIT's premier programs with 100 students participating and internship opportunities across the country and around the world. F/ASIP is a truly unique program that provides training to first year students on how to get internships that first summer, and how to be successful at those internships once they get there.

Once at their internship sites, student participants are paired with MIT alums, who serve as their mentors. FASIP participants work in many different industries from Financial Services to Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, from Architecture to Applied Mathematics, and from Intensive Research with faculty to Biotechnology. FASIP students are bright, capable and interested in doing many different things.

MIT alumni and alumnae can get involved with the F/ASIP program in a number of ways:

  1. Employer involvement: Ask your company to consider advertising a summer internship position with the F/ASIP program. The three criteria needed are time, challenging work, and an MIT alum to serve as a mentor. The only cost of the program is the student's summer wages, which are negotiated directly with you.
  2. Mentoring opportunities: Volunteer to be a mentor for a F/ASIP student who is interning at your company or in your local area.
  3. Seminar involvement & contact with students: Next time you are in the Boston area, stop by to assist with a F/ASIP seminar or extra credit panel. We are always looking for alums who are willing to share their career paths and help our students improve their networking, interviewing and workplace dynamics skills.
