Dinner - Portuguese Cuisine Saturday,
April 26th, 2003 at 6:30 PM Our
next International Dinner will be at “A Taste of Portugal”. The Owner/Chef
is Jorge Fife, a native of Portugal who came to Texas about 4 years ago after a
25 year sojourn in South Africa. He claims that this is the only Portuguese
restaurant in the whole of Texas. Jorge is a most engaging personality and he
has promised us a sumptuous feast consisting of a variety of dishes from his
menu which can be viewed at http://www.atasteofportugal.net. A unique feature of this restaurant is that wine is on the house! So, as usual the Happy Hour will start at 6.30pm and dinner will be served at 7.00pm. The
restaurant has received rave reviews which can be seen at: http://www.houstonpress.com/issues/2003-02-27/cafe.html/1/index.html The
cost is $17.50, which covers food, wine, soft drinks, coffee, tax, and tip. The
address is 11650 “A” Jones Road, Houston, Texas 77070 (281.469.8691). The
restaurant is exactly 3.7 miles north of Highway 290, at the intersection of
Jones Road and Woodedge. Click
here for a map. Please
RSVP to Anwer Hussain at home on 281.752.9123, or via e-mail
, by Wednesday, April 23 (don't "REPLY" to this e-mail - you'll just
reach the guy who delivers all of this stuff).
Seating is limited to 25 people, so dues-paid members (& their
guests) have priority. Also, at
some dinners in the recent past, we were charged for no-shows, so if you can’t
make it, PLEASE CALL ME! I hope to
see you there! Finally,
the International Dinner following this is planned for June 2003.
Further details in a future e-mail and/or newsletter, or check our web
site. Anwer Hussain 2003-2004

Club of South Texas Membership Drive It’s
time once again, time for the annual MIT Club of South Texas membership drive.
The MIT Club of South Texas invites you to join or renew your membership
for 2003. Membership in the club
runs coincident with the calendar year, which means that those members who paid
their dues before October 1, 2002 need to renew now for 2003.
Membership is open to all MIT alumni and alumnae, as well as current
undergraduate and graduate students and their parents.
Your dues in the local club are used to pay for mailing announcements and
the newsletter, sponsor events for local high school students accepted at the
Institute, award prizes at local science fairs, and improve local science and
math education through our Leadership in Education Program (LEAP). Although we do benefit from some administrative assistance
from the Institute, the MIT Club of South Texas does not receive funding from
MIT or from the Alumni/ae Association. Click
here for a Membership Coupon Last
year was one of our best membership years ever for our local club, and we’d
like to make next year another winner. Join
today to get the maximum benefit from your membership! President
