6:30 PM – Social
7:00 PM – Dinner

RSVP by April 17

In April we will shift our focus back to the Continent of Asia and more specifically to the Middle East. Our next International Dinner will be at Garson, an Iranian restaurant. It is located near the Galleria area on Hillcroft between Westheimer and Richmond. Some dishes planned for us are Koubideh, Chengeh, Dolmeh, Humos, Tabouli etc.  The Happy Hour will start at 6.30pm and dinner will be served at 7.00pm.

The cost is $20, which covers food, soft drinks, tax, and tip, with wine and beer extra.  The address is 2926 Hillcroft, Houston, Texas 77057 (tel. 713.781.0400). The restaurant is on the West side of Hillcroft between Westheimer and Richmond.  Click here for a map

Please RSVP to me at home at 281.752.9123, or via e-mail, by Wednesday, April 17.

Seating is limited to 25 people, so dues-paid members (& their guests) have priority.  Also, at some dinners in the recent past, we were charged for no-shows, so if you can’t make it, PLEASE CALL ME!  I hope to see you there!  Finally, the International Dinner following this is planned for June.  Further details in a future e-mail and/or newsletter, or check our web site.

The Infinite Connection is a suite of free web-based services offered by the Alumni Association to help alumni stay connected with MIT throughout their lives. It's fast and easy to register for an Infinite Connection account--once you've chosen a username and password, you can start using these great features:

Email Forwarding for Life: End all your hassles with merging or failing ISPs. When you register and choose a permanent "@alum.mit.edu" email alias, it's the last time you'll ever have to change email addresses. When colleagues, friends, and family send mail to the @alum.mit.edu address, it will forward to up to five active email accounts. And you can update your forwarding address online anytime.

Online Alumni Directory: You can update your own listing in the directory and even add a picture or personal message. Or you can search out old friends and classmates.

URL Forwarding: Similar to Email Forwarding for Life, this feature offers you a permanent URL alias for your personal or professional web site.

Online Career Assistance Database: If you're thinking about a new job or career, you can find an alumnus or alumna in the field who is willing to assist you. It's all available through ICAN (Institute Career Assistance Network), a self-service career assistance database on the web.

Class Notes Online: Catch up with all your class news online, with complete Class Notes dating back to November 2000.

Mailing Lists: Join an alumni email list related to your class, living group, or current interests, or start a new mailing list of your own.

If you've registered for an ANS account in the past, you've already made the Infinite Connection!  Log in with your ANS account / Infinite Connection account at the Alumni Homepage:

Stay Connected with the Club of South Texas !

We often send email announcements as an alternative to US Mail newsletters sent via US Mail and we use email addresses provided by MIT.  However, MIT has email addresses for less than half of South Texas alumni, so we suspect there are many addresses yet to be collected.  You can easily provide MIT with your email address through the Infinite Connection described above.

We also use the email address you provide on your membership form for Preferred Service Announcements.  Preferred Service Announcements are in addition to the monthly Newsletters sent via US Mail.  Only Dues-paid members receive these Preferred Service Announcements (by either email, fax, or US Mail.)

To receive the maximum benefits from the Club, use the Infinite Connection ( https://ans.mit.edu/user/main.jhtml ) to verify / update your

home address,

email address,

and verify that you are included in the MITHOUS email distribution list.

If you are a dues-paid member, you’ll also need to update the Club of South Texas with your email address:

Annual Club Membership Drive

It’s time once again, time for the annual MIT Club of South Texas membership drive.  The MIT Club of South Texas invites you to join or renew your membership for 2002.  Membership in the club runs coincident with the calendar year, which means that those members who paid their dues before October 1, 2001 need to renew now for 2002.  Membership is open to all MIT alumni and alumnae, as well as current undergraduate and graduate students and their parents.

Your dues in the local club are used to pay for mailing announcements and the newsletter, sponsor events for local high school students accepted at the Institute, award prizes at local science fairs, and improve local science and math education through our Leadership in Education Program (LEAP).  For eight years we have been sending local high school teachers to MIT for a one-week session in secondary science education.  Although we do benefit from some administrative assistance from the Institute, the MIT Club of South Texas does not receive funding from MIT or from the Alumni/ae Association.

Membership is available at several levels.  Regular membership continues to be $25 per year level.  Patron membership is offered for an annual contribution of $50.  Special Sustaining and Benefactor membership is available for those who contribute $100 and $200, respectively.  As recent graduates, members of the Classes of 1997 through 2001 can join at the special reduced rate of only $5 per year.  Members at all levels receive discounts as well as preferred enrollment for themselves and their guests at MIT Club of South Texas sponsored events.

Last year was one of our best membership years ever for our local club, and we’d like to make next year another winner.

Join today to get the maximum benefit from your membership!

New Features on the Club’s Website

We have added two new features to the Club’s website:  a direct link to MIT’s E-News website and a “Welcome To Texas” page.  The MIT E-News service is a monthly email highlighting current events at MIT.  As a service to our members, we are posting the weblink to the current month’s E-News newsletter on our local website.  The “Welcome To Texas” page contains state and city weblinks useful to folks who have recently moved to the Houston-Galveston area.  These weblinks are prominently displayed on our homepage:   http://alumweb.mit.edu/clubs/s-texas/
