Announcing September 2006 Officer Structure Changes

Over the past year (July 2005 to June 2006), our club set a goal for 12 events for the year, and successfully completed 12 events for the year. However, during the early spring, we realized that there were several more events that we could have hosted. Our limiting factor was the number of 'volunteers' that we had that were actively planning events. For much of the year, the event planning had fallen on the shoulders of the four officers (Howie, Steve, Yee, and Caroline) that had taken the lead on events, and our schedules would not permit us to do more.

Therefore, we have changed the Officer Structure for the current year, and have been fortunate to add a few new volunteers to our ranks. In particular, rather than just having one Vice President, we have created several Vice Presidents, each with different responsibilities. We created VP slots for Membership, Communications, and four slots for Events (Durham, Raleigh, RTP, and Chapel Hill).

Deanna Chou, Jessica Maia, and Shannon Dahl are now the respective VPs of Events for Durham, Raleigh, and RTP. In addition, the Young Alumni chair spots were filled with Darrell Fruth and Ravi Patil stepping into those roles. Yee Lam holds both the VP of Communications and the Secretary positions, and Caroline Rhim is the VP of Membership. The VP slot for Chapel Hill is unfilled. Steve MacCabe remains as the fantastic Treasurer for the club.

In addition, Rafael O deJesus has joined our board and was an active volunteer last year. Rounding out our board are the ever dedicated Bob Glatz, Colin deSouza, Mike Brothers, and Sol Seroussi.

Based on our initial planning meeting and the subsequent events that have followed, it seems our new structure is paying off. We already are scheduled to have more events than this same period last year (through December). I am pleased with the progress that our club is making in growing and maturing over the past three years. I feel fortunate to have such a fun and committed group of officers and board members that are willing to spend their precious free time to help out.

I'd like to invite all MIT alumni in our region, regardless of whether you have lived here for many years, or are new to the area, to come join us at an upcoming event.

Warm regards,
Howie Rhee
President, MIT Club of RTP

August 2005 Planning Meeting Produces Results

Greetings,

We just finished our annual planning here with the executive committee (myself, Steve MacCabe, Mike Brothers, Yee Lam, and Caroline Rhim) , and we have the next 6 months of events planned out! Print the event list below and post in on your refrigerator! Our goal this year is to average one event per month.

Also, it's that time of year again - membership dues are due. If you haven't renewed since July 1, 2005 (two months ago), your membership has lapsed. Your dues make it possible for us to continue to host events in the Research Triangle. Support the MIT Club of RTP by becoming a member at: Secure MIT Alumni Website

Enjoy the rest of your summer and we hope to see you at one of our events in the next six months!

Best,
Howie Rhee
President, MIT Club of RTP
