The MIT Club of NH is pleased to welcome Ms Kris Ohleth from Deepwater Wind. She will speak to us about the challenges involved in locating sites and deploying major wind farms off the east coast of the United States.
Deepwater Wind is planning several sites, including a venture off Rhode Island, which would be the first significant wind farm off our Atlantic Coast. Perhaps a wind farm 20 miles off Portsmouth would be good for NH. Alternative energy in general, and wind power in particular, are clearly hot topics at the moment, and this will be a great opportunity to learn from someone whose company is at the forefront of its field.

An MIT Club volunteer will provide round trip transportation from a convenient point (for example, the NH Park & Ride lot at the junction of I-95 and Rt. 101).
The December lecture we have selected is described below or can be seen by going to the MIT website, as follows: http://events.mit.edu/event.html?id=11598986&date=2009/12/9
MIT Energy Club Lecture Series: Carbon Capture and Sequestration Research Seminar
Join MIT and community researchers and policy experts for a discussion of carbon capture and sequestration, the barriers and the opportunities.
If you would like a ride to this event (or just to go to/from MIT) on December 9, please contact David Godfrey (dgodfrey@alum.mit.edu) to request a reservation in the carpool and to confirm departure and return times. A nominal charge for round trip transportation of $10 (club members) or $15 (all others) is asked to help defray the cost.
If there is another upcoming lecture or event being held at MIT that you would like to attend, please give us a call to see if we can include your event of interest in our schedule. Please go to the MIT website and refer to the event schedule.
If you are interested in assisting the MIT Club of NH in providing this carpooling service to members of the MIT community in NH, please contact David Godfrey or any other member of the Board of the MIT Club of NH.
