Introduction

The MIT Club of Hong Kong is one of the longest-operating MIT alumni/ae clubs outside of the United States. According to the Association of Alumni and Alumnae of MIT, the Club was established on December 19th, 1951. Throughout its existence, the Club has been capably run by many different individuals for the purpose of advancing the interests of the Institute and serving the MIT community in Hong Kong.

In the past, the Club had held dinner receptions for Susan Hockfield, MIT President, as well as various deans and professors of the Institute. Back in 1980, a dinner was held in which world-renown architect Mr. I.M. Pei was guest of honor. In 1992, the Club in conjunction with the MIT Sloan School of Management held a 2-day symposium, entitled Managing Technology: The Role of Technology in Asia in the 21st Century featuring Sloan School Dean Lester Thurow. More recently, the Club sponsored a dinner talk given by Prof. Negroponte, who introduced to us the $100 PC initiative. But one of the more popular functions ever organized by the Club remains to be the MIT Invitational Sports Day. It started in 1982 as a family day held for Club members and has since become an annual event participated by other university alumni clubs and their members.

The Club of Hong Kong is part of MIT's alumni network and is entirely run by volunteers. We organize events, do community service, and work toward building a group scholarship for students at MIT.
