Welcome to the Club of Colorado!
The MIT Club of Colorado enters its 120th year this year at the same time as MIT enters its 150th year. MIT's sesquicentennial will be celebrated through a huge array of events spanning 150 days culminating in graduation/reunion week June 2011. I had the opportunity to serve on the committee formed to help the Alumni Association develop plans for involving alumni around the world and while I can't give you a definitive schedule, I can say that the events will celebrate MIT's awesome contributions to science, technology, engineering, and the world over the last 150 years. You won't want to miss it!
As the second oldest alumni club in the country, the Club of Colorado also has a lot to celebrate this year. The club has a long tradition of education and society for our members. This milestone in our history is an opportune time to honor that tradition while continuing our efforts to ensure relevance to an alumni base that spans more than 80 of our 120 years! In addition to our great annual events, such as the free picnic which regularly attracts 100+ attendees, happy hours, Beavers lunches, and student events, this year we hope to refresh our entrepreneurial events, add some exclusive plant tours, and host an anniversary celebration of our own (if you made it to the 115th Anniversary Celebration you know what I'm talking about!)
Our primary goal for this year is to revitalize the club's leadership pipeline. Currently many of our key leadership positions are vacant and the number of new volunteers joining the club has dwindled in the last few years. This year we will implement an ambitious recruitment program to identify people who are interested in serving, provide them with training and opportunities to learn about the club, and position them to assume the leadership of the club in the future. Could you be one of those people?
Finally, I would like to say thank you to the club members (yes, that means you!) for electing me as president of the MIT Club of Colorado. It is my honor and privilege to serve you for the next year. I hope that the club can embody the essence of MIT and that, for all the reasons you chose to attend MIT in the first place, you choose to be a part of our community.
Sincerely,
Katy Brown `93
