Welcome to the Club of Colorado!
Why Be a Member?
At the last MIT Club of Colorado event, someone asked me, "Why should I pay membership dues when I can still go to the events without being a member?" The simple answer is that without enough members, the club wouldn't exist, and therefore we couldn't put on any events. MIT requires us to have a certain number of members in order to be an official club. Membership dues help the club raise enough money to put events together. The more interest we get in the club, the more diverse events we can plan.
Club dues support a lot more than just events. Each year, the club sponsors three high school teachers to go to SEPT (MIT Science and Engineering Program for Teachers). The club also helps other programs that are in the interest of promoting MIT. This year, we're helping launch MIT's participation in CLIMB (Colorado Leaders, Interns, Mentors in Business) an internship program for students, which already includes Yale, Middlebury and Stanford.
The MIT Club of Colorado fiscal year runs from July through June. To be a member of the club for the 2008-2009 year, please, send in your dues! There's a form in this newsletter or you can use your credit card through SmarTrans at:

Get Involved
The Club of Colorado board is made up of volunteers who organize events and handle all the other aspects of running the club. We're always trying to come up with events that our alumni/ae are interested in and fit their schedules. For example, we've recently started having luncheons. There have been two so far, and there will be one this month in the DTC. Please, look in this newsletter for more details. As with all of our events, an email will be sent out announcing each lunch. We're always open to suggestions for events, and even more importantly, we'd love to see new people help set up events. Volunteers can contribute as little or as much time as they want. Every bit counts, and this club is as strong as its volunteers and members.
All MIT alumni/ae are welcome at every board meeting. The next one is July 2nd in Centennial, CO. We hope to see you there!
Sincerely,
Christine Spencer `96
