class notes : june 2005
by mimi yang, alumni class secretary
Hello my dears. Thank
you all for continuing to contribute to Class Notes.
Without much further ado,
here's more gossip: Shan Shan Huang was recently
in San Francisco for a conference and met up with Nisha
Shukla. Shan Shan returned to school in 2003, and is in
her second year of Ph. D. studies for Computer Science at the Georgia
Institute of Technology. Nisha, after having worked for Intel since
graduation, is looking forward to quitting her job, traveling in
the summer, and starting business school at Wharton this fall. They
are happy that their plan to take over the world is running perfectly
on schedule.
Aisha Stroman
laments the timing of our 5th year Reunion, but for good cause.
She will be getting married in June 2005. Her fiancee, Don Taylor,
III proposed to her on Christmas Eve morning at a restaurant in
front of their family (and the other folks at the restaurant). "He
got down on one knee and the whole nine!" Aisha and Don will be
getting married in Norfolk, VA. They have the proposal on video
and are hoping to add it to their web page soon (www.aishaandon.com).
All you other people who do not have weddings are, of course, obligated
to attend Reunion.
Of course, with all the
weddings over the past few years, we have to expect that babies
will be on the way. I'm happy to announce two of the first MIT babies
to make it into Class Notes! Yevgeniya Nusinovich '01 and Aaron
Ucko would like to announce the birth of their baby boy,
Solomon (Solly), born on Dec. 22, 2004. Solly arrived a couple of
months early, which came as quite a surprise for everyone, but he
is doing well now after spending more than a month at the hospital.

Solomon
(Solly) Ucko, born to Yevgeniya Nusinovich '01 and Aaron
Ucko on December 22, 2004.
Ophelia Goatson-James
and hubby Jason James would also like to announce
the birth of their son, Memphis Nataani James, born on January 31,
2005, at 2:21 a.m. He weighed in at 7 lbs., 9 oz. and measured 20
inches. Both Ophelia and Jason are enjoying their new status as
parents. They have finally decided to make their parents happy and
"had the kids already." The whole James family is doing great and
Ophelia is enjoying her time off to spend with Memphis.
Meanwhile, after making
my way to the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area, I had the opportunity
to witness first-hand the huge number of MIT alums in the area.
In fact, at my housewarming bash, it seemed that half of MIT was
there. Some of those in attendance: Aaron Bornstein '02, Ben Chambers
'01, Carolyn Dunbar, Madhulika Jain,
Esther Y. Lee, David Ratajczak,
Sarah Sohm '99, Carl Steinbach '01, and David Wang '01. Forgive
me if I forgot anyone, but I was busy attending to the half of Lower
Haight who decided to show up and pacifying my neighbor who claimed
that someone had peed off my fire escape and onto their window.
(Sorry, neighbor.) You know it's a good party when someone pees
off the fire escape. - Mimi Yang, secretary, 1100 Fulton St. #1,
