PAST CLASS PROJECTS
- What our class has achieved since graduation
Class of 2000 Student Activities Fund
The
Class of 2000 Student Activities fund was virtually unusable
for the first several years until it raised enough money to
first pay for the clock and then to raise enough of a block
of money to actually allocate to a group without wiping out
the whole fund. The Student Activities Office staff has been
working hard to publicize the funding sources available and
it seems that there is now enough funding in the Class of 2000
fund account to actually support some of these requests. The
first event sponsored by the class was an event held during
Orientation 2003.
Multi-Cultural
BBQ - This event was sponsored by 11 student organizations
representing Native American, Latino and Black/African-American
students primarily. The event was a welcome event for new freshman
specifically, but it also served to bring members of the MIT
community together to encourage interactions and celebrate our
diverse community. The BBQ helped merge the various cultures
by serving cultural food prepared by the respective organizations.
There was also a DJ there to play a mix of music, and volleyball
and other activities to promote increased opportunities for
interaction. This event took place at the Kresge BBQ Pits and
attracted over 700 people. The event was held on 9/6/03 and
the Class of 2000 Fund supported the event with $2000.
Class of 2000 Clock Fund- Senior Gift FY00
Members
of MIT's class of 2000 dedicated the Class of 2000 Clock on
September 27, 2002, a gift furnished through generous support
from members of our class. The new timepiece, located above
one of Stratton's main entrances was planned during the 2000
Senior Gift Campaign. Upon completion, the Clock Fund was closed
and all leftover monies transferred to the new class project,
the Class of 2000 Student Activities Fund.
The
Clock is here! At 6 pm on Friday, September 27, 2002, the
ticking began, as the Class of 2000 gift began life to an exciting
dedication ceremony led by C2000 President Anna Benefiel
and Class Agent Bhuvana Husain outside the Stratton Student
Center. Joining the festivities were members of the Alumni Association,
CAC, Class of 2000 Executive Committee, and many others interested
in the gift and/or time.
