March/April 2009

Greetings Everyone!

After 14 years with Pacbell/SBC/AT&T Rupert Young’s job was moved to Dallas and he decided to leave the security of a big company and joined a start-up in December 2008 so that he could stay in the Bay Area. By the time this is printed, hopefully it will be clear that it was a good decision and his new company will have left stealth mode and lots of real customers will have signed up to use their products. On a personal note, Rupert has been happily married for almost 12 years and has a six year old son and a two year old daughter who keep him very busy.

Brian Robertson recently left SunEdison, having helped co-found it five years ago, to start a solar PV module manufacturer called Sunworks. He and his wife Eileen and their three kids are living in the greater Washington DC area. Anna (Tomassini) and Jose Plehn ’96 recently moved to Philadelphia where he is now an Assistant Professor at the Fox School of Business at Temple University. Anna started at Lockheed Commercial Space Systems in September.

Conan Ham is coping with being laid off for the 3rd time in 10 years. Each time he has had to leap industries and start anew to find a job, but this time, he has too much "experience" and gets eliminated from consideration forentry level positions or has too little experience to be qualified for the advertised "experienced" positions. It is interesting being caught in the middle and hopefully by the time this issue is printed he will have something.

Sherry (Wu) Lewis and her husband, Robert, welcomed their third child, a girl named Sophie Marie, on September 19, 2008 in Rockville, MD. In 2007, Sherry decided to return to engineering after working almost six years in management consulting. After a few weeks of maternity leave, Sherry will continue her nuclear engineering position with the U.S. Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board, which oversees nuclear safety at many U.S. Department of Energy sites. Felicia (Moss) and Ari Trachtenberg ‘94 welcomed a baby boy in May 2008. Baby Menashe adores and is adored by his big brothers Benni and Yoni.

Thank you to everyone who has submitted updates over the past few months. Please remember that you can submit updates and photos any time throughout the year to be posted on our class website, http://alumweb.mit.edu/classes/1995/.
