September/October 2007 Greetings Everyone! Some new arrivals were welcomed by our classmates, including Ian Eslick and his wife Mary Kelly Persyn who welcomed their twin daughters, Anne and Claire, to the world on December 5th of last year. They are wrapping up their time in New York where Mary Kelly is finishing law school. Soon they will return to Cambridge where Ian will resume his PhD at the Media Lab. And William Zeng is pleased to announce the birth of Cyrus Julian Zeng on March 31st. Baby Cyrus is one happy camper! Mom (Xin Liu) is taking time off from work to spend time with Cyrus while William is away during the day minding investments as a partner at a New York based hedge fund. ![]() In other news, Sheryl Ott is spending this year in Washington, DC learning Arabic after completing tours in Korea and Germany flying the F-16 for the U.S. Air Force. This summer she will move to Tunisia to begin two years as an Olmsted Scholar (www.olmstedfoundation.org). Niha (wife), Elina (baby) and Manoj Bobby Wunnava are doing well in Atlanta where Manoj will finish his residency in anesthesiology at Emory University in June 2008. Elina will turn one year old on June 2nd. Her parents are excited but admit it is bittersweet that she is already one year old! Conan L. Hom reports that he has been downsized for the third time in less than a decade...so he is experienced in filing for unemployment claims. Babak Azad recently joined Beachbody, a Los Angeles company that sells fitness video through infomercials, in a strategy and finance role. He also recently returned from Dubai and Qatar where he was helping to facilitate, through an organization called LeaderShape, a leadership program for Middle-Eastern college students. It was an amazing week, both personally and professionally, and reminded him how much the similarities between students abroad are much greater than the differences. And lastly, Jennifer Glos is happy to share that "Fighting for Life," the feature documentary film which she has been co-producing for the last two years, premiered in Washington, DC at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum in May. It will be released to a general audience this fall. With extensive filming in Iraq, Germany, and the United States, the film tells the story of military doctors, nurses, and the U.S. soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan. To read more about the film and find screenings near you visit www.fightingforlifethemovie.com. Thank you to everyone who has submitted updates over the past few months. Please remember that you can submit updates and photos any time throughout the year to be posted on our class website, http://alumweb.mit.edu/classes/1995/. —Jennifer (Tschudy) Carlstrom, secretary, 13045 Alta Tierra Road, Los Altos Hills, CA 94022; e-mail: jtschudy@alum.mit.edu. |
