July/August 2009 |
September/October 2006 Greetings everyone! As usual, our classmates have been busy with all kinds of life changes over the past few months. Let's hear what they have been up to! Yueh "Ray" Lee finally completed the MD/PhD program at UNC-Chapel Hill in May 2006 and will be staying on at UNC for a residency in Radiology, after an internship year in General Surgery.Heidi (Shih) Ashih also graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill medical school and matched to her first-choice residency program: Psychiatry at Harvard - Cambridge Hospital. She, her husband Aaron Ashih, and their 2 year old son Dante are thrilled to be moving back to Cambridge after a long hiatus away. Andrea Jensen is now a Major in the USAF, still flying B-52s, and currently at the end of a 120+ day deployment in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM flying sorties over Afghanistan. She is being reassigned to Randolph AFB in San Antonio this fall to be a T-6 Texan instructor and can't wait to move to Texas. Visitors to the RiverWalk should drop her a line! Kalen (Yang) and Jim Miskel '93 lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina for a year after she completed her residency in Internal Medicine from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 2003. They have recently settled down outside of Philadelphia and bought a house in Narberth. Kalen started working with the Philadelphia Department of Public Health as an internist at one of their health care centers, serving a largely Spanish-speaking patient population. They have a 17 month old daughter, Carmen Pilar, who keeps them plenty busy. Ranee Mehra is finishing her fellowship in medical oncology at Yale University at the end of June. Her husband, Sharad Verma, and she are then moving to Philadelphia where she has an attending position at the Fox Chase Cancer Center and her husband will be working at GlaxoSmithKline. In addition to all of these changes, they are also happily expecting their first child at the end of August! Joyce (Espiritu) Beebe, her husband Scott and big sister Natalie welcomed Matthew Nicholas to the world on Sept. 22, 2005. Arriving three weeks before he was due, he weighed in at 7 lbs., 12 oz., and measured 20 inches in length. He is now growing like a weed - he wore at 4 months some hand-me-downs that Natalie wore at 6 months, and now at 7 1/2 months, he comfortably fits some 12-18 month size clothing. (He must get it from his 6'3" tall dad - he certainly did not get it from his 5'2" tall mom!) Natalie must have given him some great tips on surviving day care, because he adjusted well to our local Chesterbrook Academy. That is one fewer worry for mom as she continues working on intellectual property at the Federal-Mogul Systems Protection Group in Exton, PA. (She will have been with the company for 9 years, come October.) Lydia (Chan) and husband Mark Timpson were delighted to welcome a baby girl on April 4, 2006. They named her Carys Grace Timpson and she weighed 9 lbs. and was 21 inches long. All three are doing well. Diane Hodges Popps and her husband Donovan just had their first child: Adrian Connor Popps on April 26, 2006. He weighed in at 8 lbs., 4 oz. He's a wonderful baby and Diane looks forward to the four months she has off from Freescale Semiconductor to be with him. She is sure the time will fly by! Thank you to everyone who has submitted updates over the past few months. Please remember that you can submit updates and photos any time throughout the year to be posted on our class website, http://alumweb.mit.edu/classes/1995/. —Jennifer (Tschudy) Carlstrom,
