March 2005 Don't forget that our 10 year Reunion is just around the corner. Make sure that you have registered and secured a hotel reservation for the weekend. Also, please pledge to MIT and contribute to our class gift at the same time. For more information on reunion events or giving, please visit alum.mit.edu/ne/reunions/class-pages/1995/index.html. Amy Koo and Marina On are busy organizing the Northern California pre-reunion event. Please sign up on the yahoogroup to stay abreast of the latest details. They also want to use this yahoogroup going forward to keep in touch with fellow Northern Californians. To sign up, send an email to MIT1995NorCal-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. Congratulations to Eva Moy and her husband, Abdelghani Jaafar, who had their third son, Omar, in August 2004. We are happy to announce the September birth of Yonatan Simcha Trachtenberg to Felicia Trachtenberg and Ari Trachtenberg '94 and big brother Benni. Jen Kazmierczak and her husband Mike welcomed a daughter, Anya Rexford Kazmierczak, on Nov. 8, 2004. She joins a very proud big brother, Jonah, who turned four-years-old in October. Jen is enjoying the holiday season at home with the kids, as she is on maternity leave from her job as environmental health and safety manager at fuel cell startup company Plug Power. Nicole Hernandez and Ed Hernandez celebrated the birth of their second son, Antonio Edward, on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004. The eight pound, three ounce, baby was born within 30 minutes of arriving at the hospital! Nicole, Marisol (their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter), and Ed are all excited about the newest addition to the family. Also, they have recently moved to the Chicago area where Ed accepted a brand management job with Kraft Foods working on Philly cream cheese. Amy Witty and husband, Paul, are expecting their first child (a boy) in early February. They are still living in the Minneapolis area where Amy is still a six sigma black belt at Goodrich Sensor Systems (an aerospace company) in Burnsville, MN. They enjoyed visiting with Jenn Wozniak last summer when she stayed with them during her sister's graduation from the University of Minnesota. Shraddha Munver and Ravi Munver are expecting their first child in April 2005. Chalee Asavathiratham left McKinsey early in 2004 and moved from Bangkok to the U.S. He is now working as a senior analytics engineer at Pivotal Systems in Pleasanton, CA, while his girlfriend, Vicharee, is getting her MBA at Stanford. Andrew Kraft is now a show director at VNU, running the Digital Marketing Conference and Expo. Ellen Block will be finishing her PhD in immunology at Cornell Medical School in NYC this March. She is extremely excited to announce her engagement to David Cohn, an attorney, and they will be married this May on Long Island. Keith Bevans has been a manager in Bain and Company's Chicago office for the past six months. He and his wife are celebrating seven years of marriage on March 22, 2005. They have two boys, Keith Jr., three-and-a-half years old, and Malcolm, who is almost two see picture elsewhere in this issue. Keith gets to Boston frequently during recruiting season and still catches up with as many folks as possible when he's there. Kristin and Matt Cutler have recently moved back to the Boston area after spending two great years in Chicago. At the time of printing they are in the process buying a house in Needham, MA, and are really happy to back in the Boston area. Their son, Quentin, is pictured elsewhere in this issue. I am pleased that Yassir Elley decided to make his first submission to Class Notes since graduation! Yassir has remained in the Boston area for the last 10 years. Since MIT, he has been working in the field of network security software (cryptography, PKI, etc). He started off at HP in Chelmsford, MA, and then moved on to Sun in Burlington, MA, where he has been working for nearly seven years. In other news, he married Subheen Razzaqui in 1997 and they were blessed with a beautiful baby son, Yusuf, three years ago. After many years of apartment life, they recently purchased their first home in Natick, MA, which they are enjoying very much. After many years, he enjoyed catching up with Burton House roommate Malay Kundu '94 recently at a gas station in Burlington. Astrid McNellis has moved yet again, this time to stay (at least for a little while)! She's joined her husband in the mile-hi state of Colorado and is working in business development for the University of Colorado. Season ski passes are a standard procedure here and she is finally getting to put her jeep-with-tow-hook-and-skid-plates to good use on off-road treks in the summer. She can't wait to see all her friends from MIT, being an educational counselor for MIT sure brings back a lot of memories! Astrid shared that Siu-Li Khoe has finally gotten the beautiful wedding she wanted when she renewed vows with Owen Johnson in Vancouver this summer. She continues to work at Textron in Providence, RI, and finding herself on many an airplane as she helps various subsidiaries get into shape. Astrid also told us that Carol Martinez, now a pediatrician, continues her work in Boston. When not pulling outrageously long on-duty hours, she and her husband, Peter Castaldi (also a doctor), have been diligently working on their pad in Cambridge and slowly turning it into something super-cool! Thanks for the notes, everyone. Looking forward to seeing you at reunion! -- Ranjini Srikantiah, 92 Westwood Blvd, Westwood, NJ, 07675; ranjini@alum.mit.edu. |
