Hi Everyone!

I apologize for the lapses in the last few Tech Review notes....I have not kept up with my deadlines as diligently as I should have! Just to update you all on what's happening with me, I was the vocal director for the MIT Musical Theater Guild's spring production, called "Weird Romance." The show was received very well and I had a great time helping with direction. Chris Merkel was in the production, as were a number of other alums in the area. Once rehearsals for that show concluded, I started rehearsing more intensely with my acappella group, Voiceworks, here in Boston. We had our annual spring benefit concert (we're a community service organization) on May 17th. Needless to say, singing factored greatly in my schedule this spring! Anyway, enough about me, lets get on to the notes:

Vijay Sankaran is still working at Ernst and Young on a project with a major pharmaceutical firm in Princeton, NJ. He saw many Class of '95ers at a get together last summer (1996) at Great Adventure, including Garlen Leung who is working at GE in Schenectady, Matthew Konosky, who is at King Industries in Connecticut, Evelyn Yao, who is at Bloomberg in NYC, and Tracy Back who is at Colgate-Palmolive in Piscataway. Also in the New York area are Wynne Kwan, Raj Prabhakar, Daniel Kong, and David Pecora. Wynne has just finished her last year of Graduate school. She received a Master of Science in Urban Planning from Columbia University. Her Master's thesis was entitled "Coastal Zone Management on Small Island Developing Countries" and she is on the lookout for a job in NYC or Boston. Raj is working at Wasserstein Perella in New York City, enjoying the investment banking life. He is spending all of his time with the Media group. Daniel is working for Smith Barney in NYC trading foreign exchange. Dave has been working for American Management Systems since graduation. "So whenever anybody asks what I do, I just tell them 'computer stuff.' He claims he can do a killer imitation of a Ping-Pong ball, what with all his job-related trips between New York and California. He says hello to everyone!

In the teaching circuit, Anna Fortunato is now a high school science teacher for Lawrence Woodmere Academy. I recently met up with Alissa Whitney, who is still teaching math and science to 7th, 8th, and 10th graders at a private Christian school outside of New Orleans. She went to Germany and Austria over Easter and has a grant for summer study. She will also be visiting family in Belize this summer. She told me that Nidia Flores is working for Motorola in Phoenix and that Aaron Day is working as a consultant out of Kansas, causing him to travel a lot.

Barbara Manganis has been working for the air force in Albuquerque, NM, since graduation, building small satellites. She recently got her private pilot's license, and got engaged to Matt Braun '94 while they were housesitting for Mitchell Burnside Clapp '84. Navy Ensigns Charles Curtis, M. S. Takahashi recently graduated from the Submarine Officer Basic Course. During the 12-week course which is taught at the Naval Submarine School, in Groton, Conn, they learned about the theory, construction and operation of nuclear-powered submarines. They also received instruction concerning damage control, submarine safety and escape procedures, and in submarine weapons, fire control, and sonar systems. Melinda Moss is a 2nd Lt in the 56 Civil Engineer Squadron at Luke AFB in Arizona. She reports that April Fredian went to visit her on her way to San Francisco, Christine Jones is in Phoenix working at Allied Signal along with Abe Udobot, and Agnieszka Reiss is in Beaverton, Oregon with Techtronics. Congratulations are in order for Mark Sadowski and Stephanie DeWeese, who will be getting married on May 25, 1997. After the wedding, she and Mark will be moving to Ft. Irwin, CA, where he is stationed with the US Army. She will be transferring to the LA office of Andersen Consulting.

At UC-Berkeley Jocelyn Nee and Tarik Saleh are both hard at work. Jocelyn is in the EECS department as a graduate sudent, pursuing her MS and PhD. Her research is in micro-photonics, using MEMS technology to make moveable micro-optical components. Tarik is completing a Masters in Materials Science. He is working part time for a custom bicycle frame builder (Kelly Custom Frames). At Berkeley he is working on composite design for the UC Berkeley Human Powered Vehicle Team.

After graduation in June 1995, Trey Ideker traveled through Europe and worked as a computer consultant in Munich, Germany for a year. During the summer of 1996, he and Ashu Atwal '97 traveled through the US by motorcycle. He's now in Seattle, Washington, pursuing a PhD in biotechnology and bioinformatics with Leroy Hood at the University of Washington. Another travel veteran is Stacy Heen, who is currently in Nebraska working as a planner for Parsons Brinckerhoff. She took the month of October off of work and went on a 5-week solo backpacking trip to France and Italy - "The best thing I've ever done!" She's enjoying the midwest but really misses Boston and is looking to move back, after the dead of winter, of course. Weihaw Chuang is currently working at Intel Corp in Merced Design Automation. Edward Hernandez is a filament engineer for Hoechst Celanese's Narrows, VA facility. He and Nicole Gotti got married in November 1996.

Brian Robertson and Steve Carbone are doing quite well at Sage Enterprises in Cambridge. Brian is the Chief Technology Officer of PlanetAll, an internet-based, personalized interactive community that provides numberous services to better enable individuals to connect with family, friends, classmates, and colleagues, and coordinate busy schedules in ways never before possible. Visit http://www.PlanetAll.com. Registration is fast, easy, and free! Pradeep Sreekanthan is at MIT, and hopes to graduate with his Masters in Materials Science in June 1997. Ling Liao will also be finishing then. Martin Lewis is currently employed by Maritech, Inc in Arlington, MA, a small consulting firm of naval architects and marine engineers. He is working on acoustic predictions for a new coastguard Ice Breaker.

That's all, folks! Congrats to all the recent graduates. If you are interested in getting together with other Class of 95 alums in your area, please let me know...I can forward any info you need. Also, keep an eye out for the Class of 95 web page. Development is currently underway by Stefanie Moses (with help by Amy Koo, Bryn Oh, and Ben Jordan). Thanks for your hard work and dedication! Keep those updates rolling in...
