MIT Class of 93

The MIT Class of 1993 Scholarship Fund is designed to help a student who has the potential for an MIT education, but lacks the financial means to attend. It is fund #3387993 if you wish to donate to the fund the next time you contribute to MIT. During the 2003 fiscal year (July 2002 through June 2003) we raised $8,781 for the fund.

The fund was created during our 10th reunion year, and the letter below was sent out by Class Agent Sang Han at the time.

Dear Classmates,

I am pleased to be writing to you about a project where we can make a difference in the lives of the future leaders of tomorrow.

During our graduation year, our class began a recycling initiative that has taken hold across MIT’s campus.  We can continue this strong tradition of impacting the MIT community by supporting our recently established Class of 1993 Scholarship Fund.  With close to 60% of students receiving scholarships today, we can be a part of the effort to see that the best students attend MIT and have a phenomenal educational experience.

Once funded, our scholarship will help continue MIT’s tradition of offering need-blind admission for students qualified to attend the Institute.  We will keep you posted on our project’s success on our class Web site at http://alumweb.mit.edu/classes/1993/ If you would like to make a difference today, make a gift online today at https://alum.mit.edu/giftform/GiftMain.dyn and remember to designate your gift to our class project, the Class of 1993 Scholarship Fund (#3387993).

Thank you for your consideration and my thanks to all of you have supported our class project in the past.

Sincerely,
Sang Y. Han II ’93
Class Agent

In February of 2004, Robert Wickham, the class of '93 president, received a "thank you" note from Jessica Huang '07, the winner of the scholarship.

Dear Mr. Richard R. Wickham and the Class of 1993,

First of all, thank you for your generosity. Your contribution has allowed me to study at one of the finest universities in the world. I have had a wonderful first semester, and have now just finished IAP and starting second semester. I feel like I have experienced and learned so much in the short few months I have been at M.I.T., but my amazing first semester has spurred me to want to accomplish even more in the following semester. In the fall, I participated on the school's varsity field hockey team, and am now currently on the cheerleading squad. I have also recently joined a sorority, Sigma Kappa, and am looking forward to its many philanthropy events in the coming spring. I am extremely excited and pleased with my classes for the spring term, and I haven been thinking deeply about my future plans. I hope to major in mechanical engineering and/or economics. I have already found an internship with General Dynamics for the summer, but I am eager to return to M.I.T. early so I can be either an assistant academic advisor or an orientation leader. I am so grateful for your financial assistance, and I hope to keep in touch! I wish you all a wonderful 10 year reunion!

Sincerely,

Jessica Huang
