Class of 87 Spotlight
Tim Jones
TIMOTHY JONES
We asked Tim to tell us how he decided to recently return to MIT and what he has learned as a MIT Sloan Fellow:
After spending years in startup companies as an executive and founder, I saw the need to refocus and develop disruptive ideas and technologies. Therefore, returning to MIT in some capacity was a logical choice. The resources of "the firehose" are far too many to count, and a lot can be gleaned simply by walking around and talking with incredibly intelligent and motivated people.
At the same time, I saw the need to further develop my leadership skills, as well as broaden my network of colleagues globally. The Sloan Fellows Program in Innovation and Global Leadership was a natural choice. In one year of intensive study, I've not only developed a deeper understanding of key areas in leadership and managment that make me a better executive, I've also joined a cohort of fantastic people that will be a part of my life forever. In particular, I've become much more attuned to investment opportunities outside the U.S.; in fact, our cohort is headed to China and South Korea for two weeks in order to meet with top companies and government leaders. I've also renewed my interest in information technology, so much so that I'm planning to seed fund a company this summer in the Enterprise 2.0 space.
