MIT Class of 1969 - In Memoriam - Gene Mallove

Last Friday, May 14, 2004, our class secretary Gene Mallove died after being assaulted outside Norwich, Connecticut. Gene was cleaning out his boyhood home, which was being rented. The media has reported on the events; links are found below. (View them while they're still valid; news links often go away quickly.)

In addition to his many years corresponding with classmates and reporting on their doings in Technology Review as our class secretary, Gene, SB '69, SM '70, PhD Harvard, was the author of several science-oriented books including the Pulitzer-nominated Fire From Ice: Searching for the Truth Behind the Cold Fusion Furor (at Amazon...).

Gene became an advocate of serious scientific exploration of Cold Fusion, first reported in 1989. He founded New Energy Foundation and published the magazine Infinite Energy.

Gene is survived by his wife Joanne, daughter Kimberlyn, son Ethan, grandson Matthew, and his mother Gladys.

Part of our upcoming 35th reunion is a memorial service for deceased members of all reunion classes from 8:00 - 9:00 AM Saturday, June 5, 2004 at the M.I.T. Chapel. Classmates are invited to honor Gene and other members of the class who died since our 30th reunion in 1999.
