Harvard, of course, was the arch rival especially since we saw them every day on the Charles. Every Harvard oarsman, so it seemed, had hundreds of MIT shirts; I think they cleaned they oars with them. So, in the rare years when we did beat them, it was something to celebrate!
This is the 1963 Varsity Lightweight Crew decked out in our newly won Harvard
shirts after beating them in a dual meet. This picture may be one-of-a-kind.
Several of the graduating seniors from 1962 were replaced by members of the Class of
'63, so you'll see a couple more of our classmates here.
Second row, left to right: Mark Barron ('64); Herb Herrmann ('64); Pete Staecker
(64); Ron Cheek ('63); Dennis Buss ('63); Rick Metzinger ('63);
John Proctor ('65); Mike Greata ('63). Cox: Bob Vernon ('63). I was also
Crew Captain that year.

· As seniors, the light Varsity was undefeated in the regular season, defeating Harvard, Cornell, Navy, Penn and others. They were second in the Sprints 0.4 sec (I think) behind Cornell. The JV finished a respectable third in the Sprints
