TECHNOLOGY REVIEW CLASS OF 1963 NOTES JANUARY/FEBRUARY,1998
ISSUE(Sent October 1, 1997)
Bill Barnett, II, has become editor of a
new journal called Macroeconomic Dynamics, published by Cambridge University
Press. Bill is a professor of economics at Washington University
in St. Louis (which he points out is not the University of Washington in
Seattle). Well, St. Louis, Seattle, they both start with an "S;" I can
see the basis of the confusion.
Mel Potash, II, announced his retirement
from Sikorsky Aircraft after 33 years. (That may have been his first job!).
He and his wife Adele have moved from Connecticut to Jensen Beach, Florida.
Groves Herrick, XVI-B, is taking a sabbatical from his position
as chair of the engineering department at Maine Maritime Academy where
he has taught for 25 years (another example of job stability). He will
be going to Imperial College, London, for a Master's in History of Science
and Technology, a topic which has held his interest for many years. He
says, therefore, that he won't be able to attend our 35th reunion unless
he flunks out. This will be Groves's second master's degree. He earned
an M.Sc. at Tech in '64 and took a Ph.D. elsewhere.
Frederick Cunningham, II, wrote in about
his children. Heather is working in San Diego, Michael is studying
at Northwestern, Rosann is a student at Pratt, and Sharon took a two week
course in Japan; but Fred, any news of you?

A reminder that I cannot give out anyone's mail address, e-, snail, or
otherwise. If you want people to be able to contact you, please list your
e-mail address with <MITalum@mitvma.mit.edu>
so people like Warren Sewall, XVIII, who is trying to contact Lennart
Ehn, I, can do so. (Coincidentally, the three of us were sophomores
in the same high school). Warren says nothing worth noting in this column
is happening in his life. Well, that's worth noting. Face it, we're getting
to an age when if you get up in the morning and you're breathing, that's
a good sign and worth noting. Unfortunately, there are several members
of our class who can't say that. Fortunately, none I have to report this
month.
I'd like to close with a word of appreciation for
Sandra Knight. Sandra has worked with the class secretaries for almost
23 years in her position as Senior Editor at Technology Review. She has
been extremely helpful. With her departure also comes the end of the Review's
editing of these columns. I suspect she would have cut out some of the
wisecracks above, and probably wouldn't even have allowed this paragraph.
We will miss you, Sandra, thank you and the best of luck.
Let's hear about you! Keep the alumnews coming!
