updated Tuesday, February 01, 2005. Attached is a "guide" to how I locate classmates (of a certain age) using the internet. This can be sent to all class detectives. If someone has earned his or her Ph.D., I recommend using www.google.com with their name (including middle initial). This works surprisingly often, and I surmise that it is because PhDs publish! These techniques work best for US based individuals. If anyone has hints on how to find non-US based individuals I would like to hear them. Finding classmates can be a fascinating and fun hobby. I found one classmate (high school) because her brother had married a girl with the same first name! I found one MIT classmate via her ham radio call sign. Otherwise, without a married name, the ladies can be harder to locate. I suggest passing these ideas along to living groups and any other groups who might be considering reunions or finding former compatriots. Regards, Rick Merrill |

These are methods for finding School Classmates without a lot of money or trouble.
If these fail, google for "ssdi" and search there.
First open a browser window = IDENTIFICATION
Login into the MIT Alumni web site and make sure YOUR information is up to date.
Click on the "Alumni Directory" - it takes you to a SECURE (https) login facility.
Then,
Find your Class Missing List.
For example, MIT'63 is http://alumweb.mit.edu/classes/1963/missing.shtml
Identify a missing person you would like to locate. Copy the name into a
text file on your computer and keep an window open for it. = WORKING DATA
Goto the SECURE MIT alum lookup facility:
https://ans.mit.edu/user/oad/search.vhtml
Enter the persons name, and when you have chosen the correct one (sometimes
there are several grads with the SAME name!) click on the name again. THIS
gets you their MIDDLE name and a few other bits of info, such as their ham radio callsign.
Now open another browser window = QUALIFICATION
Access you favorite search engine and enter their full name. You may get lucky!
If you need more refinement, goto
http://teaser.ussearch.com/teaser/teaser.jsp
Carefully enter first name, middle initial, last name, AND your own age !-)
Click "search". Then highlight each line that has the correct age, and middle initial,
and copy that line to your (above mentioned) text file.
Now open yet another browser window = LOCATION AND PHONE
Enter the name, city and state you have found. There should be just one, but not always!
Results can be sent to your class secretary.
Happy hunting,
Rick
