Signing of the Treasurer's Memorandum

On March 13, 2008, a representative delegation of Class of 1960 officers met with the Institute Treasurer and staff from the Alumni Association and Development Office for the formal signing of the Treasurer’s Memorandum which describes and directs the Class of 1960 Endowment for Innovation in Education (EFIE).

Our Class can be proud of its generous support bringing EFIE to a book value of approximately $1.6 million and, with excellent Institute stewardship, a market value of approximately $6.3 million. Based upon the recommendations of the deans, the provost has awarded $1,670,000 since 1991 to thirty-four members of the MIT faculty to develop innovative educational programs at either the undergraduate or graduate level across all departments—a remarkable success. As we approach our 50th Reunion in June, 2010, we should expand this source of seed capital money to support the best of initiatives in the ever-changing MIT educational programs
