50th Reunion

Our hard-working 50th reunion committee, chaired by Carl Swanson, met on May 8, 2007 at the home of Sue Schur. This was the second meeting of the committee. In addition to Carl and Sue committee members present included Linda Sprague, Jorge Rodriguez, Dan Whitney, Dick Cahaly, Ray Harlan, as well as Robert Dimmick representing the Alumni Association. Tom O’Connor and Jim Nicholson, also members of the committee, were unable to attend.

The committee has selected the Cambridge Hyatt Regency for the on-campus part of the reunion and there are a block of rooms booked for Thursday, June 3 to Sunday, June 6,2010. On Thursday we attend Tech Night at the Pops, preceded by a dinner at Symphony Hall. The class will march in the commencement procession on Friday, June 4, as the 50th reunion class always does, followed by a lunch , various activities on campus, and a casual dinner Friday at a place not yet determined. Saturday’s activities on campus will include the president’s reception and a dinner dance, probably at the Hyatt.

The committee has agreed to have the class’s post-reunion gathering in Newport, RI, from Sunday, June 6 to Tuesday, June 8 based on the response of the class to a survey taken prior to our 45th reunion. Dan Whitney is in charge of the Newport activities and he will book the Marriott in Newport for our stay. Ray Harlan is leading the effort to find the addresses of “missing” classmates and is looking for volunteers (that’s a hint, folks) to help him with this endeavor. Ray can be reached at rharlan@alum.mit.edu.

There is still much to do before our 50th and Carl and the committee are looking for more classmates to join them in planning and carrying-out the myriad activities of a successful reunion. To get an idea of classmate preferences, Sue Schur is preparing a survey, to be mailed in Fall 2007, of additional activities and venues that classmates would like for the reunion.
