CLASS OF 1957 NOTES FOR MAR-APR 1999 TECH REVIEW

From Alan M. May

As I sit here writing these notes it is Halloween this evening and the November 3rd elections will be next week. As regards Halloween, tonight I shall be a member of the Titanic's crew. Step aboard please. Women and children first.

Speaking of elections, The Cambridge TAB reports that one classmate who is trying to do something about them is Guy Carbone who is a candidate for the Massachusetts state Senate for the Middlesex and Suffolk senatorial district. This district includes all of Watertown and Belmont and parts of Waltham, Cambridge and Allston-Brighton. Guy graduated high school in Watertown. After earning three degrees at MIT he joined the engineering faculty at Tufts University from 1958 to 1962 whereupon he returned to his family construction business. In 1966 Guy was appointed chief engineer of the Massachusetts Government Center Commission, a position he held until 1975. While chief engineer, Guy earned a law degree and in 1975 joined the Massachusetts Department of Labor and Industries as senior counsel, special assistant attorney general, and ultimately general counsel for the department. In 1980 Guy started a full-time law practice which has continued to the present. Guy is a principal in the Boston law firm of Serra, Jordan and Carbone. Guy has served as a master in the Superior Court and as an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association. On the political side Guy has served multiple terms on the Watertown School Committee and as selectman. In 1979 Gov. King chose Guy to serve as commissioner of the Metropolitan District Commission. The Belmont selectmen appointed Guy to represent Belmont on the MWRA Advisory Board on whose executive committee Guy has served since 1993.

Roger Yaseen writes that he is a financial advisor with Schroders in New York. Roger's main interests are gastronomy and health. Roger says that although he is divorced he hopes to get married once again. He writes that he recently purchased a home "in a good school district"; Roger claims that it is "the triumph of optimism over experience."

Bill Linko writes that he is working as a consultant in Vista, CA. Bill says that his personal interests include travel, the stock market, and "personal protection systems".

Fred Jaggi writes that he lives with his wife Valerie in Den Haag Netherlands. Fred is a project manager for Raytheon Engineers &Constructors designing mid-east oil refineries. Fred's outside interests include model engineering and industrial archeology. When Fred isn't working in The Hague, he is working in Paris. I'd like that!
