John D. Stelling
![]() |
John is a Massachusetts native who entered MIT from Quincy High School,
enrolling in Course XIV-A, Economics and Mechanical Engineering. As an undergrad, he was
V.P. of Alpha Tau Omega, and participated in the Interfraternity Conference. After graduation
he attended Cornell and the Harvard Business School, later becoming president, CEO and chairman
of a consulting engineering firm in Brookline, from which he is now retired. He and Valerie
have been generous supporters of MIT and active in class affairs, including
the planning of our 50th Reunion. John was a long term member of the Alumni Council
and president of the MIT Club of Boston. Always close to MIT, the Stellings live at
100 Memorial Drive. |
| Sr. Vice President & Class Agent |
Walter Frey |
Completing a 5-year term as President, and not one to retire quietly, Walt returns to the position of Class Agent which he held for many years prior to his presidency. He has also served MIT as an Educational Councilor over many decades. As an undergrad, Walt was a member of Theta Xi, and played varsity Lacrosse and Soccer. Graduating in Aeronautics, Walt began a distinguished career with Pan American, then moved to Mobil Oil Corporation in 1975. He and Beryl reside in Auburndale, MA. |
| Sr. Vice President |
William S. "Bill" Grinker |
No introduction necessary for this Brookline contribution to Course XV. The gregarious Bill has attended and helped plan every reunion the class has ever had, often serving as Reunion Committee Chairman. He is also a past Class President, having held that seat in the early ‘70s. His talents became obvious when, from his room in Baker House, he put together a sales organization that blanketed the campus with engineering lamps, slide rules and drawing kits, denting the Coop's bottom line that year. He later helped Honeywell and IBM get their footing in the computer markets before setting up a business partnership of his own. When not traveling the world, he and Ilene reside in Framingham, MA. |
| Sr. Vice President |
Richard A. Jacobs |
Dick hit the ground running upon his arrival at MIT from Portland, Maine, and hasn't slowed since. A course XV graduate, Dick was Ring Committee Chair and VP of the senior class. His career took him to Chicago where he was Sr. VP and Director, North American Operations of A.T. Kearney, Inc. Among the many MIT alumni positions he has held are President of the Alumni Association, Fund Board, and Member of the Corporation. Most recently, he was co-chair of our 50th Reunion Gift Committee. He resides in Supply, North Carolina, where there is a company with his name on it. |
| Sr. Vice President |
Ted Korelitz |
One of the powers behind Voo Doo, Ted commuted from Brookline to study Course X and was associated with Alpha Epsilon Pi. Always close to MIT, Ted was active in student government. After graduation he served as Alumni Fund volunteer, worked in Industrial Liaison, and is currrently acting director of the Advanced Study Program. Finishing a term as Class President, Ted took on the awesome job of Reunion Chairman and in typical form produced one of the most successful 50th Reunions on record. He and Diane live in Newton Centre. |
| Sr. Vice President |
Harris Weinstein |
This Class VP is best known for his service as Co-Chair of the 50th Reunion Gift Committee. Arriving from New Bedford, Harris made his presence known in Burton House while pursuing a Math degree. After graduation, he continued for a masters in his chosen discipline, but then found his true destiny in the field of Law. Associated with a Washington, D.C. law firm, Harris became, during the first Bush administration, Chief Counsel for the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS), a Treasury Department office regulating and prosecuting errant S&Ls. Now, as a former member of the Debate and Bridge clubs, he is happy applying his talents in litigation. |
| Treasurer |
Ralph Kohl
| Ralph is a native of Brookline, Massachusetts, and holds two
bachelor degrees from MIT, one in Course XV and the other in Course I. He is a project manager
for Lincoln Lab and lives in Newton Highlands. In past years, he was class co-secretary,
then served as treasurer in the run-up to our 50th, and was then re-elected for another term.

| Class Secretary |
Lloyd Beckett |
Arriving from Milton, Mass., Lloyd joined Alpha Tau Omega and pursued a degree in Course X. He was in Air Force ROTC and a member of the Doolittle Squadron. Retiring from Polaroid after 20 years in engineering/management, Lloyd found redemption as a teacher of math and science in middle school. Dealing with adolescents for 12 years and liking it proves that he is somewhat unbalanced. He now enjoys being a grandfather, living in North Falmouth, and has lots of time to write the class notes. Send him some mail! |
| Webmaster | T. Guy Spencer, Jr. |
An Oklahoma native who transfered as a sophomore, Guy was a member of Delta Tau Delta and lived in Burton House. Taking a Course XV degree, he served as president of the Fort Worth Alumni Club and returned to Cambridge as associate director of the MIT Alumni Fund. He was president of the DTD House Corporation. As a founding member of the MIT Soaring Association in 1969, Guy became chief flight instructor. For ten years he managed the Community Playhouse in Wellesley, then established Hour Photo, a retail lab in Sudbury, from which he retired in 2001. He and Ann now live in Sarasota, Florida. |
