  1953 Class Scholarship Fund Recipients
1996-1997

The recipients of funding from the Class of 1953 Scholarship Fund for 1996-97 have been determined. It gives me great pleasure to write and tell you a little bit about their activities at MIT.

Michael Fedor '97 of Fairhope, Alabama is receiving renewed funding from the
’53 Fund. Michael majors in aeronautics and astronautics. He has participated in a UROP (Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program) in fluid dynamics. A reservist in US Marine Corps, Michael plans to be a Marine Corps Officer, and then go into business. Last summer he did basic training for the Corps. On campus, Michael is the stage manager for the MIT Symphony Orchestra and member of a jiu jitsu club. During the term he works as doorman and bouncer at a local restaurant.

Jill Depto '97 hails from Tiadelphia, West Virginia, and majors in chemical engineering. After three terms (including last summer) working on a UROP in thermogravimetric analysis of diesel particulate matter, Jill has a research paper planned for publication. She plans to go to graduate school in her field. Assistant captain of the women's ice hockey team, Jill is also involved with community ice hockey teams. She plays in the Concert and Jazz Bands. Jill enjoys rollerblading and plays intramural volleyball and softball. During the term she works at her dorm’s front desk.

Without the support of your classmates, MIT could not maintain its commitment to admitting the best and brightest, regardless of need. On behalf of the Alumni/ae Association and the Institute, I send sincere thanks to the Class of 1953 for contributions to this fund.
