The recipients of funding from the Class of 1938 Scholarship Fund and the Class of 1938 Beta Theta Pi Award for 1997-98 have been determined. It gives me great pleasure to write and tell you a little bit about their activities at MIT. If you would like more information, please don’t hesitate to contact me. As in past years, ten students are receiving awards from the Class of '38 Scholarship Fund, of which half are renewals from last year. I have listed them by name, major, year, and hometown and selected two to highlight with further details.
Jennifer Glover, a sophomore management major from Grand Prairie, TX is interested in an eventual MBA degree and a career in international business. Meanwhile, as a freshman she became involved in a UROP for Professor Ismail Chabini of the Department of Civil Engineering studying transportation issues. She is also an active member of her living group at German House and served as the R/O chair for this fall. During the school year, Jennifer works several hours each week, delivering mail to New House to help out with her educational expenses, and she worked three jobs at home over the summer. Richard Rosalez, a senior from Paulding, OH continues to thrive in his Urban Studies and Planning major. He will probably decide to work for a year or more once he receives his degree from MIT this spring, but hopes eventually to enter the field of law. Here at MIT, Richard is active in student government, where he serves on several sub-committees, and works part-time for the Admissions Office. In addition, he runs varsity cross country track and volunteers for a local community center. Richard also participates in the leadership of Burton House dormitory and enjoys sports, politics, and music in his spare time. Without the support of your classmates, MIT could not maintain its commitment to admitting the best and brightest students, regardless of need. With tuition fees growing and federal student assistance dollars ever shrinking, scholarships are more important than ever to delivering education of the highest standard. On behalf of the Alumni/ae Association and the Institute, I send sincere thanks for your contributions to this fund. |
