The recipients of funding from the Class of 1938 Scholarship Fund for 1996-97 have been determined. It gives me great pleasure to write and tell you a little bit about their activities at MIT. Ten students have again been chosen, of whom four are renewed from last year. Please find below a list of the recipients by name, class year, major, and home town and selected two to highlight with further details.
Kelly Hetherington, a management major from Poway, CA has been renewed for her senior year. Kelly plans to attend graduate school next fall and hopes to launch an eventual career in investment banking. Meanwhile, she is active in the Sloan Undergraduate Management Association and interns at the MIT Enterprise Forum. She is also very involved in Alpha Chi Omega sorority, where she serves as both house manager and rush chair, and participates in women's varsity crew. Other interests include training for the Boston Marathon and helping out with national and state political campaigns. Young Kim, a sophomore computer science and engineering major, was born in Seoul, Korea, and comes to MIT from Torrance, CA. Young is very active in Phi Kappa Theta fraternity, where he serves as the community service co-chair and participates in various intramural teams. He also enjoys music and sings with MIT Cross Products a capella group. In addition, he belongs to the Korean Christian Fellowship Bible Study and practices Tae Kwon Do on a regular basis. Without the support of your classmates, MIT could not maintain its commitment to admitting the best and brightest, regardless of need. On behalf of the Alumni/ae Association and the Institute, I send sincere thanks for your contributions to this fund. |
