I am delighted to inform you that eight students have been selected as Class of 1938 Scholars for 2000-2001. Six students have been Class of 1938 Scholars in the past; two students are first-time recipients of support from the Class of 1938 Scholarship Fund. I have listed them by name, year, major, and hometown, and selected the two freshmen to highlight with further details:

Melissa Mihelidakis ’04, a freshman from Plymouth, Massachusetts, is a new Class of 1938 Scholar. Valedictorian of her graduating class at Plymouth North High School, she was involved with her high school drama group as both actress and director. She sings and plays the guitar at church and for the entertainment of friends. She was the recipient of the Brown Book Award and writing is one of her interests. She captained both her soccer and her basketball teams and is engaged in the martial arts through Kung Fu. Here at MIT, she plans to major in biology.

Jacqueline Felton ’04, another new Class of 1938 Scholar, is also a freshman. Jacquie, too, was her class valedictorian, graduating last spring from Tampa Preparatory School in Tampa, Florida. She has been involved with every drama production at her school beginning in the seventh grade. She plays in the Youth Symphony Orchestra and spends time programming and consulting about web page construction. Over the summer, she

worked in computer maintenance and clerked at her school. Here at MIT, she plans to major in electrical engineering and computer science.

As you know, support from the Class of 1938 helps MIT maintain its commitment to admitting the best and brightest, regardless of need. On behalf of the Alumni Association and the Institute, I send sincere thanks for the Class of 1938’s contributions to this fund.
