Grace Kessenich, a freshman, is a new Class of 1938 Scholar. Grace was the Copy Editor of the student paper at Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School during her junior and senior years. She was awarded a letter for participation on the Debate Team and the Math Team (where she was also the captain). Drama was another interest of hers while in high school. Her participation in science competitions may be one of her most impressive endeavors. She placed in the top 17 in a national contest for her “boom arm team” and won many other honors. Over the summer, she was involved in MIT’s Minority Introduction to Engineering Program. Although she has not yet chosen a course of study at MIT, she plans to pursue a career in engineering.

Ethel Machi, another new Class of 1938 Scolar, is also a freshman. She served as the Leader of Phillips Exeter Academy’s Concert Choir and Glee Club. During high school, rowed on the crew team and was captain of the Junior Varsity Field Hockey Team. In addition to her athletic pursuits, she served as a dorm proctor and was a founder of Leaders in Exeter Abstaining from Drugs (LEAD) in her third and fourth years. She also volunteered as a tour guide for the school. Over the summer, she enjoyed working as a camp counselor. Ethel has not yet chosen a course of study at MIT.

As you know, support from the Class of 1938 helps MIT maintain its commitment to admitting the best and brightest, regardless of need. On behalf of the Alumni Association and the Institute, I send sincere thanks for the Class of 1938’s contributions to this fund.
