I am delighted to inform you that the Alumni Committee, headed by Mike Johnson, has selected Jesse Gonzalez ’01 of Alvin, Texas and Andrew Hogue ’01 of Upper Saddle River, New Jersey as the Class of 1938 Beta Theta Pi Scholars for 2000-2001. Jesse Gonzales ’01, who is a senior majoring in mechanical engineering, has been very active in Beta Theta Pi. In addition to pursuing his academics, he has devoted time to intramural sports during the school year. Last summer, he enjoyed working as an intern for Brown Innovations in Boston where he learned the inner workings of a small business. He has continued to work part time for the firm during the academic year. He plans to pursue a career in the area of research and development for mechanical engineering. Andrew Hogue, who is a senior majoring in electrical engineering and computer science, served as treasurer of Beta Theta Pi. He has worked for the MIT Computing Helpdesk and co-founded an internet startup, Storefront. Andrew also has been very active in MIT Concert Choir; intramural volleyball and basketball; Lutheran Church Youth Group; and Boy Scouts of America (Eagle Scout). In his spare time, he enjoys playing the saxophone, guitar, and bass. He hopes to earn a 5th year master’s degree and enter the field of artificial intelligence, especially in the area of research and development. I thought you might enjoy taking a look at his resume, which is included with this letter. As you know, support
from Beta Theta Pi and the Class of 1938 helps MIT maintain its commitment
to admitting the best and brightest, regardless of need. On behalf of
the Alumni Association and the Institute, I send sincere thanks for the
contributions to this fund. |
